Differences are to be cherished.
As for which is best? What is your criteria? The number of subscribers? The amount of servers? The amount of money earned? If any of these are metrics we know which game wins.
If you'd like to say it's a matter of quality then I'd ask you to try defining quality. While we can identify quality we can't really define it in any measurable sense. That leaves you with opinion. So essentially you are extolling yours while others are defending their's.
What's left is differences. Eve is very different than the usual suspects of mmo's we're seeing now a days. It's has risk, it has strong limitations to a characters ability to be everything. It's complex. There is a lot to learn.
If one were to ask about my opinion I would say that games like WoW ( which I have played far too much) pander to the lowest common denominator. They steer clear of complexity in fear of alienating the simpler audience. The most complex aspect of WoW is trying to wrangle a 40 man raid group. That being said, that has proven to be a wise and profitable model. If your goal is to make money, make games like WoW.
Eve is not afraid of a little complexity. Turret turning radius, rate of fire, optimal range, falloff range, damage modifiers, missile speeds and missile flight time just to name a few. That, believe it or not, keeps some people away. Read the rookie chat for one hour and see how many absolute beginners are frustrated because the game is not handed to them in a manageable easy to understand box. Then add a player economy, the threat of real pvp in which you will lose your ship and possible need to be cloned. Real (game) risk. That's not WoW and that's not many other MMO's currently out there. That is what attracts some of us to Eve. It's different. Don't be surprised if seem to think the game they like is better than the other games. That's the nature of it. Avid WoW people I'm sure would bag on Eve and might even seem elitist.
Personally, I hope there is always space in the market for the game that's a bit more challenging and a bit more complex than the average. You'll find me at that table.
As for role play, it's niche. A lot of games claim they have it but I've yet to see any that do. I'll be happy if the players simply respect the environment they've been provided with and stray from names such as Masta Killa666 and Darth Freddy. They just annoy me.
ps. Nothing funnier than "Admiral StarKiller" asking in rookie channel for help cause he can't undock.
